If you enjoyed the first film, The Jungle Book, you’ll love The Jungle Book 2. The second installment in the highly popular book series was a blockbuster from the word go, grossing over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The film was so successful because not only did Disney create a fantastic animated movie (the best one ever), but they also created a successful sequel. And now, the second sequel is available…
Because of how successful The Jungle Book was, the odds are that Disney will make another one of their popular children’s movies. And, it looks like they are planning to make three… possibly four… at the very least. We can only hope that the third will be as good as the first, but that remains to be seen. But for now, we have The Jungle Book 2 to look forward to.
The first movie (The Jungle Book) was an amazing adventure story told through the eyes (and ears) of a lemur. The story showed how Mowrey lead his village from terrorizing the townsfolk to freedom. It was an amazing tale of courage and adventure, told in a way that only a children’s movie could. But, did you know that the makers of the movie actually owned the rights to the book? So, there’s the potential for a fight over the rights to the story if anyone should come up with a claim.
Speaking of that, this is the second book in the series, and it’s sure to be just as much fun. As usual, things are going on in the jungle, and Mowrey and his loyal acolytes are on patrol trying to keep things under control. Everything goes well until a vicious predator attacks. The acolytes are too late, and the predator is already on the loose.
In this second movie, everything gets even more unbelievable. We travel to Brazil, where the story is told; we see what the jungle really looks like; and we get to meet the local populace. Brazilian director Carlos Santo Diaz has managed to create a film that rivals the Academy Award-winning Jungle Book. In fact, the visual effects are so real that some scenes have been shown on the Discovery Channel.
The characters remain the same, and the picture quality is top notch, especially when you consider the VHS copy of the first book. I especially loved seeing the shots of Tim Burton’s face when he was doing the voice of the lion, imagining how it would look. It really makes you think. The original version of the book was on VHS, but all of the special effects and special scenes were done on a computer, and the clarity is absolutely superb.

Kids love the jungle, but this version looks like the real thing. The special effects are realistic and the story is a great one. If you’re a fan of the books, or if your child is, you will enjoy this movie just as much as the first. Like the first book in the series, The Jungle Book II promises to be better. It’s not like the first book where the movie makers had to make something from scratch – they took the source material and made something even better.
For those of you who haven’t read the first book, or who haven’t seen the movie, either one is great. In my opinion, the second is the superior of the two. Both are entertaining, engaging and educational. So if you loved the first movie, or even if you hadn’t watched the first one, go see The Jungle Book II. It’s worth the time and money.
